Theology

1. What is the meaning of theology?

ANSWER:

  • The word theology comes from late middle English, from French théologie, from Latin theologia, from Greek θεολογία, theologia, from θεός, theos or God + λόγος or logos, "words," "sayings," "discourse," or "reason" ( + suffix ια, ia, "state of," "property of," "place of"). The Greek word can be literally translated as "talk about God or the divine," but the meaning of the word shifted as it was used (first in Greek and then in Latin) in European Christian thought in the Patristic period, the Middle Ages and Enlightenment, and then taken up more widely.

2. What do we know about God in Gen. 1:1 if this is an introduction about Him?

  • Gen. 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

ANSWER:

  • The Creator

OBSERVATION:

  • I believe that the correct understanding of God begins with the belief that He is the Creator of all things. True theology begins from Gen. 1:1.

3. What does the Bible says about the Creator?

  • Eccl. 12:1 Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them

  • Is. 40:28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. Is. 40:29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Is. 40:30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: Is. 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

  • Is. 43:15 I am the LORD, your Holy One, the creator of Israel, your King.

  • Rom. 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

  • 1Pet. 4:19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

  • Rev. 14:6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, Rev. 14:7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

  • Creator gives the strength to the weak

  • Creator is the King

  • People worship the creature more than the Creator

  • Creator will preserve us during our time of suffering
